  2. the son of Duşyanta and Śakuntalā, after whom the country of India was named Bhārata (M. Bh.); the son of Daśaratha and Kaikeyī, the half-brother of Rāma, Lakşmaņa and Śatrughņa, the husband of Māndavī, and the father of Takşa and Puşkala (V. Rām.); a sage of the 4th century BC who was the author of the Nāţyaśāstra, a treatise on dance.
