Rāma literally means ‘one who gives delight to the yogis’.

Rāma

In the epics and the purāṇas, three Rāmas are dealt with:

  1. Rāma, the son of Daśaratha also known as Śrīrāma
  2. Rāma of the battle-axe, called as Paraśurāma
  3. Rāma or Balarāma
