Sthānaka

Sthānaka literally means ‘standing posture’.

Sthānaka

Images of deities installed in the temples are generally of three types:

  1. Sthānaka - standing
  2. Āsīna - sitting
  3. Śayāna - reclining

Images of the sthānaka type are the most common ones. These images can be samapāda[1] or viṣamapāda.[2]

  2. ↑ Viṣamapāda means where one leg is straight and the other is slightly bent and placed at a distance from the former.
