Sattva

From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

By Swami Harshananda

Sattva literally means ‘existence’.

The word Sattva is used in several senses such as purity and strength. It also represents sattvaguṇa, the first of the three guṇas. The Chāndogya Upanisad[1] has used it in the sense of the mind.
