From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

By Swami Harshananda

Rādhā literally means ‘one who propitiates’.

  • Some of the purāṇas describe her as the daughter of Vṛṣabhānu and Kalāvatī.
  • She was the dearest companion of Kṛṣṇa in Gokula.
  • Kama’s foster-mother also was Rādhā, because of which he got the name ‘Rādheya’.
