Irammadaḥ is a masculine form.

Origin[edit]

General[edit]

It is derived from "irayā udakena mādyati dīpyate abindhanatvāt" which means 'That which burns by water, by virtue of having water as fuel'.

Grammatical[edit]

Grammatically it can be split as irā+mad+khaś. The affix and mum augment is given by nipātana by the rule ugrampaśyerammadapāṇindhamāśca.

Meaning[edit]

Ugrampaśyerammadapāṇindhamāśca refers to lightning. The flash following thunderbolt.

Usage in Bharata[edit]

"It is the fire which flows out of clouds due to friction with each other, and falls on trees, etc. It also includes fire born in the air"[3]
