Dākṣāyaṇi literally means ‘Dakṣa’s daughter’.

Satī, being the daughter of Dakṣa, was also known as Dākṣāyaṇī. After giving up her body during the sacrifice performed by her father Dakṣa, she was reborn as the daughter of Himavān and Meṇā under the name Pārvatī.
