  3. one of the principal and seminal developers and contributors (b. ca 300 BC) of the ancient Āyurveda system of medicine and lifestyle. He is sometimes referred to as the Father of Anatomy, and the author of the famous and seminal Caraka Sańhitā which deals extensively with various branches of medicine such as general principles, nutrition, pathology, diagnostics, physiology, prognosis, therapeutics and pharmacy.
