a son of Kaśyapa and Danu; a semi-urban township in the district of Bīrbhum in modern West Bengal, where the Pāndavas along with their mother Kunti, had stayed for a few days after fleeing from Vāraņavata, and from where they got into marital alliance with the Pāñcālas through their marriage to Draupadī (M. Bh.); the same township is also known for being the birth place of the great mystic Avadhuta Nityānanda, the foremost companion of Caitanya Deva.
